Located in the
parking garage level of a high-rise
ocean-front condominium in Boca
Raton, Florida, our clients
purchased two side-by-side cabanas
and asked us to merge, renovate,
furnish and decorate them for use
and enjoyment by their family and
guests.
This cold sterile
white sheetrock box with white tile
floors is what we started with.
After gutting
everything and starting over, a
comfortable lounge space emerged.
The main entrance is through a
slider in the far left corner of the
photograph - where the sun streams
in across the hanging closet over
three drawers. Guests have
plenty of storage with all the
drawers in the base of the captain
beds.
In this corner
detail, the ocean and dunes peak
through the window just past the
natural beach grasses and other wild
foliage.
With all the cove
lighting and dimmable mood and task
lighting, the cabana closes up to a
warm and welcoming cocoon at night
when the ocean turns black beyond
the floor to ceiling, wall-to-wall
sliders.
Looking into the
cabana from the entrance we see more
storage and a television, with the
eat-in kitchen to the right.
Every surface and fabric is durable,
UV resistant, stain resistant, easy
to live with, and yet elegant and
comfortable to the touch.
Bathing suits welcome.
Sunscreen no problem.
The kitchen is
complete with a microwave/vent hood,
a two-burner stovetop, sink,
dishwasher and Sub-Zero refrigerator
with a beverage drawer above the
freezer/ice machine drawer.
The bathroom door
opens just left of the kitchen,
smartly decked out with marble
floors, shower and countertop - an
ideal beach front changing room,
shower and toilet - totally private.
Snacks or meals,
cooked here or warmed over and
served from delivery, the kitchen
makes a friendly place to get out of
the sun for some ice cream or a
beverage.
A surprisingly
comfortable wing-back chair, covered
in woven water hyacinth reeds, makes
a good place to read a book out of
the strong sun.
The beach is just
outside the sliders, beckoning
guests to go for a walk or swim.
